Lauren Marcus is an immensely gifted stage actress and singer, whose career I have been privileged to see unfold. Last year at the age of 32, just as she was approaching her highest-profile role to date, Lauren started losing her hair. She was diagnosed with alopecia areata, an autoimmune disease that results in severe hair loss for over 6 million people in the U.S.
Devastated and terrified for her health and career, Lauren wrote a song in March of 2018 that appeared to her in a dream. Calling it “Funeral”, she dedicated it to anyone going through an immense change in their life. The song just blew me away at first viewing, and I still tear up whenever I listen to it. I knew immediately I had to share it with all of you.
Update: Lauren starred in the musical "Be More Chill" which ran on Broadway from March to August of 2019.
